Cup of Gold
The cup of gold I'm referring to is a Turmeric Latte aka a Golden Latte. These have come on the health food scene pretty recently, but for good reason! Turmeric is a potent anti-inflammatory that is said to have many medicinal uses, most popular is helping to alleviate joint pain, decrease inflammation, and boosts immune system to fight disease. The main active ingredient in turmeric that gives it all these great perks is Curcumin. Curcumin is the real MVP in helping combat disease, inflammation and boosts antioxidant capacity.
But turmeric isn't the only all-star in this latte, ginger is another super powerful ingredient when it comes to benefits. Ginger is great for treating upset stomaches (anyone else drink Gingerale when you had the flu?), and has also been linked to reduction in muscle pain and soreness. Ginger is also great to drink with warm water and lemon in the morning on an empty stomach.
I've had a chance to try a golden latte from two different places - Tribeca Coffee Co. in Oakville, ON., and Olive & Ruby Cafe in Vancouver, BC. Both did not disappoint and is what inspired me to give it a try myself.
Now, I am definitely no expert in the latte making department but I wanted to give this one a go for when I need a pick-me-up during the day or when I don't feel like spending $8 on one at a cafe ...
- 1 Cup of Almond Milk (I use Califia Farms)
- 1 Tsp of Turmeric
- 1 Tsp of Ginger
- 2 Tsp of Pure Maple Syrup
- 1 Tbsp of MCT or Coconut Oil (melted)
- Dash of Cinnamon
- Add everything to a blender and blend gently until combine
- Pour mixture into a pot and heat on low-medium, whisking gently
- Once it comes to a simmer, remove from heat, pour into a badass mug and enjoy!
