So Matcha Love for this Latte

Matcha is a POWERHOUSE ingredient to use in a variety of different recipes. Most commonly drank as a tea or latte, it is also great to add to a smoothie as well. Matcha is finely ground green tea leaves, so essentially you are ingesting and benefitting from every bit of the tea leaves as opposed to just the steeped portion. One scoop of the powder has the antioxidant equivalency of almost 10 cups of green tea ... it is a powerful and potent antioxidant for the body!

There is a ton of health benefits from these antioxidants including increased metabolism (which aids in fat burning), disease prevention, lowers blood sugar and calms nervousness and anxiety. The powder is also packed with a ton of other vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. So, I think you get the point ... it's really good for you whether you are an athlete in sport, or an athlete in life - everyone can benefit from this potent superfood.

When buying the powder, something you want to look out for is the ingredient list - there literally should only be one ingredient ... matcha green tea. Be mindful of added sugars and such - I get the Ceremonial Matcha from David's Tea

As mentioned above, it's most commonly drank as a tea, but I love adding a scoop to a smoothie. Since I don't have any of the fancy tools to properly make a matcha tea, I decided to play around with it and create my own elixir. See below for recipe - I also added in a smoothie recipe as well!

Superfood Matcha Latte

Ingredients

  • 2-3 Tsp of Matcha Powder
  • 1 Cup of Unsweetened Nut Milk
  • 1 Tbsp of Pure Maple Syrup
  • 1 Tsp of Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Scoop of Collagen Peptides (I use Sports Research)
  • 1 Tbsp of MCT Oil or Melted Coconut Oil

Directions

  • Combine all ingredients in a blender, blend until combine
  • Pour mixture into a pot over low-medium heat
  • Slowly whisk mixture over heat until it reaches desired temperature
  • Pour into a mug and enjoy!

NOTE: If you have a Vitamix and can blend hot liquids, then you can heat the nut milk first and then combine all ingredients to mix.

Green Tea Vanilla Smoothie

Ingredients 

  • 1 Cup of Unsweetened Nut Milk
  • 1 Scoop of Vanilla Protein
  • 2 Tsp of Matcha Powder
  • 1/2 of a Banana (frozen makes for a great consistency!)
  • 1 Tsp of Pure Vanilla Extract
  • Handful of Spinach
  • Lots of Ice

Directions

  • Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth
