Powerhouse Protein

Macronutrients are nutrients your body needs in large amounts – carbohydrates, fats and protein. Although each nutrient plays a vital role in how our body operates, protein is the powerhouse macronutrient that helps rebuild and repair muscles, increase metabolism, and keep you filling fuller for longer!

There are tons of different ways to get adequate protein in your diet. Animal sources like lean meats, beef, eggs, and fish are complete proteins, which mean they have the full set of essential amino acids! Don’t eat meat? Not a problem! Black beans, lentils, chickpeas, and soy are great protein options for vegans or vegetarians. Try getting a palm-size piece of protein at every meal to ensure you’re getting enough throughout the day and spreading it out will help with digestion and absorption.

Protein powders (Millennium Blend is my current pick) are an excellent way to add protein to simple recipes. Pancakes, smoothies, oatmeal, muffins, the list is endless! Powders are great for convenience purposes too. If you’re always on the go, try throwing a scoop of protein in a shaker and mix with water for a quick and simple snack post-workout. Check out the recipes below for some of my favourite meals using protein powder!
