*sigh* I will forever live vicariously through the athletes I work with. I've said it before and I'll say it again; a big reason I got into strength and conditioning in the first place was to hold onto my athlete identity just a little bit longer. Sure, I'm on the other side of things, but I still get to experience a lot of excitement and all the wonderful things sport has to offer.
Now that my time at Ohio University is coming to an end, I want to give a big shout-out to the athletes and the rest of the strength staff - what a wicked experience you all have made this. Not only have I learned so much from the other coaches I'm surrounded by, I genuinely enjoyed my time working in the weight room. There were a lot of times I didn't want to leave to teach my classes (even though my students were pretty dope too), but I knew it wouldn't be long until I was back.
Something that I felt I was missed out on during my time at Laurier was not working with other coaches. Although learning on your own is essential to future success, sometimes it was hard to not have other coaches to collaborate with - no one to ask questions, observe or learn from. Being here at OU, I have a diverse group of coaches to talk with, discuss ideas, and just have fun being around. I'll ignore the fact that the strength staff spent the better part of the last eight months making fun of my Canadian accent and quirky mannerisms, but I know they are just jealous ...
Now to the athletes - thanks for making me feel right at hOUme here in Athens. Thanks for making me feel like a trusted coach, but also a big sister. From grocery shopping trips, to gruelling workouts, it has been a blast being part of the student-athlete experience again.
Special shout-out to my team of Track & Field sprinters and jumpers - you will always hold a special place in my heart for being my first NCAA Division-I team. Thank you for welcoming me into your family, finding any excuse to dab, and for letting me get fired up in my pre-meet speech on Thursdays *cue WOOOOOOO*.
Women's basketball - thanks for letting me re-live my playing days, meal swipes at Boyd and allowing me to tag along on road trips. Not to mention, for making me feel like your big sis.
Football - thank you for keeping me entertained during early morning lifts, for always repeating the word "sorry" when I say it, and for being the group of gentlemen you are. Can't wait to watch you guys take home that Mac Champ title next season!
To every other athlete I've crossed paths with over this year, thanks for making this such a kick-ass experience for me, one that I'm having trouble leaving. And remember, ranch sauce is in fact a RED LIGHT.
What a journey this has been. One that I am SO grateful I took the chance on - I know I was exactly where I needed to be this year and learned so much in such a short time.
Thanks OU athletics for the endless amount of green and grey shirts in my wardrobe, and the permanent smile on my face.
