Having been an athlete all my life then starting my strength & conditioning career in collegiate sport, I really value the team environment when training, and truly believe it makes a massive difference in pursuit of your goals. I wanted to recreate the team training environment for athletes in life.

TEAM2XL is TRAINING2XL’s OG small team strength training program that began back in 2015 on the Wilfrid Laurier University campus. The mission is to provide an intimate coaching environment for athletes in life to follow a structured strength training program consistently to build sustainable habits and practices while being a part of a collective of like-minded individuals.

Following a structured strength training program over the course of a month is an excellent way to create a solid training schedule to help you excel towards your goals like building strength, increasing your confidence in different exercises and movement patterns, and provide accountability to continuously progress.

By creating a small team environment, it allows you to gain the benefits of working with others, and also get personalized coaching and modifications to ensure you’re progressing in a way that’s best for you. Modifications are provided to each individual as needed.

Each session includes a daily wellness check, dynamic warm-up, structured and intentional strength training workout (via a 4-week program), and most importantly, a team environment to help you excel with your strength training goals.

TEAM2XL DETAILS:

LOCATION: Training Lane at 487 King St E.

DAYS/ TIMES: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7AM, Wednesdays at 12pm OR 6pm.

DURATION: 60 Minutes

WHAT TO EXPECT: Full body strength session with a proper warm-up before and cool down after! You’ll also have the option of joining the team after the session for a post-workout coffee across the street (the best part if you ask me). All levels welcome!

The VIRTUAL TEAM2XL program mimics many of the same things that is offered through the in-person version, but the program can be done in your gym/ environment.

You will be provided with 2 x 4-week strength training program blocks to follow along with a team of individuals from all over the world, and you will be provided with ongoing support and accountability along the way!

Who is this program for?

For athletes in sport and athletes in life looking for a team environment to train in to get stronger, athletic, and create sustainable training practices. You don’t have to be a competing athlete (or you don’t have to have competed in the past) to be a part of this - this team is a team for EVERYONE, and all levels are welcome. This program can be adapted and modified to ensure that you are working within your abilities (perks of the small team environment!).

Do I have to come 2x/ week?

It is encouraged that you join for the full program by coming both Tuesdays and Thursdays (it makes a big difference when working towards strength goals!), but if you can only commit to 1x/ week, that is definitely an option.

I would have to go straight to the office after, are there showers?

Yes! Training Lane is fully equipped with private showers, towels, and several other amenities. So, you are able to shower, get ready and venture off to work right after the session!

I have never strength trained before, and i’m not an athlete … can i join?

YES! The purpose of this program is to create a team environment for ALL. The group is capped at 12 people so I can ensure everyone gets the personal attention and coaching they need to succeed. I always coach each movement and drill so you can feel confident in what’s being asked.

do we do everything together on a timer?

The beautiful thing about this program is that we move through it together, but you can go at your own pace. This means, everyone does a dynamic warm-up altogether then once we get into the session, you move through each exercise at your own pace with your lane partner (there are 2-3 people in each lane that work together throughout!). No timers are involved as I want to ensure you’re getting the rest you need between sets (very important for strength training), and I don’t want you to feel rushed as you work through things.

I’m a runner, would this be good for me?

YES x 100! There are actually a lot of runners a part of the program because strength training is such a valuable piece of the puzzle for the running community. It’s so important to compliment your mileage with properly dosed strength training to ensure you’re resilient, limit the risk of injury, and feeling stronger and more powerful in your strides!
