10 High Protein Snacks for Athletes in Sport & in Life

Whether you are an athlete in sport or athlete in life, getting enough protein is KEY for recovery and performance. Not only does protein help support recovery in the body and helps rebuild and repair damaged muscle tissue, it also helps you feel satiated after a meal!

Protein is really having a moment right now on social media (especially cottage cheese), but it’s for good reason! Protein is a game changer when it comes to recovery, body composition, and satisfaction after a meal. It’s one thing to prioritize protein at each meal, but it’s also helpful to sneak in some additional sources throughout the day (maybe adding 1-2 snacks between meals). This is helpful to ensure you’re getting enough protein throughout the day (many individuals need 100g+ of protein/ day), and it will allow you to get different sources of protein (which will provide different nutrients).

I wanted to share some of my go-to snacks that I incorporate throughout my week that help me hit my protein goal each day!

  1. Adult Lunchable: Turkey Pepperettes OR Beef Jerky + Goat’s Milk Mozzarella + Almonds

  2. Hard Boiled Eggs + Hummus + Veggies

  3. Stacked Smoothie [1 cup milk + 1 scoop protein + 1 tbsp nut butter + 1 veg + 1/4 cup frozen fruit + 1-2 tsp flax or chia seeds]

  4. Greek Yogurt Apple Dip [1/2 cup Greek yogurt + 1/4 scoop protein + 1 tbsp nut butter]

  5. Tuna Salad [1 can tuna + 1 tbsp mayo OR avocado + 2 tbsp chopped pickles + sea salt + pepper + garlic + crackers to dip]

  7. Cottage Cheese Cookie Dough [see recipe HERE]

  8. Skyr Parfait [3/4 cup Skyr + 1/2 scoop protein + fruit of choice + chopped nuts OR nut butter]

  9. Protein Banana Muffins [see recipe HERE]
